The Nonwoven Bag Production Process: Key Stages and What to Watch For

As demand for eco-friendly solutions continues to grow, nonwoven bags are increasingly replacing plastic bags. Durable, recyclable, and stylish, nonwoven bags offer brands a responsible and premium alternative.
But how exactly are these bags produced? What machines are involved, and what are the key factors to consider?

1. Raw Material Preparation: What Is Nonwoven Fabric?

Nonwoven fabric is a special material created by bonding fibers together with heat and pressure—without weaving or knitting.
It is typically made from polypropylene (PP) and is both lightweight and durable.
Before production, fabric rolls are prepared in the desired weight and color options.

2. Shaping with Automatic Nonwoven Bag Machines

Prepared fabric rolls are transformed into various bag styles using automatic nonwoven bag machines. These machines can:

  • Produce different types of bags such as D-cut (handle type), W-cut (box shape), and U-cut (market style)
  • Perform both cutting and sealing in a single step
  • Operate at high speeds, saving time and labor

3. Bag Cutting and Sealing Stage

The nonwoven fabric is automatically cut to the required size. All attachment points—including the handle area—are sealed using ultrasonic welding or heat sealing technology. Key focus points at this stage include:

  • Durability of the sealing points
  • Neatness of edge stitching
  • Consistency with specified dimensions and shape

4. Printing and Customization

Nonwoven bags are typically customized with brand logos and promotional messages. Common printing techniques include:

  • Flexographic printing (ideal for large volumes, single or multi-color)
  • Screen printing (for lower volumes and special designs)
  • Transfer printing (for high-resolution images)

Surface preparation, ink selection, and printing plate design all directly impact the final quality of the bag.

5. Quality Control and Packaging

Quality control should be performed throughout every stage of production. Key checks include:

  • Load-bearing strength of the bag (especially the handle)
  • Print quality and color consistency
  • Accuracy of dimensions

Finally, the bags are packaged by count or by weight and prepared for shipment.

Nonwoven bag production requires both technical knowledge and high-quality machinery.
